This Week's Devotion
Sometimes we miss the obvious moving of God in our life. How many times have we recognized an opportunity to serve God has passed us by? Many times I have said to myself, "I missed the mark on that opportunity." Perhaps it is as simple as sharing a phone call with someone on your heart or making a hospital visit. Other times it is much more serious. I find eight areas where many Christians fail to see the obvious moving of God in their lives.
We miss the obvious instruction of God in the Bible by not reading it regularly. We miss the obvious plan of God in ministry by not doing ministry. The prophecy of God passes us by when we do keep current with what is happening in the world. Many Christians miss the will of God for themselves by trying to be someone God has not ordained them to be. We miss the miracles of God around us by being too busy. Others miss the obvious compassion of God by not investing their time in other's need. The obvious care of God passes us by because of our "I did it my way" attitude. The obvious glory of God never shines on many of us because we like the recognition for things we have accomplished. The good news is that God is ready to change all of that!
First of all, He will help us open our eyes to Godly choices when we are willing to accept the consequences of those choices. Secondly, God will move with a mighty force in our lives when we pray, read the Word, follow Godly leaders, listen to the Holy Spirit and stay involved in the work of Christ. It is hard to miss the obvious when we are walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Consider these verses, "My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the presence of your heart. For they are life unto those who find them, and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22)." God uses the "ear" and the "eyes" of these verses to emphasize our need to be vigilant to what He is doing around us. Let our prayer be, "Lord, help us to join you where you are in our lives and ministries"
